Roadworks and diversions affecting Go North East buses

Services 4, 78 and 78A at Bournmoor from 29 July until 27 September

Chester Road at Bournmoor will be closed westbound (towards Chester-le-Street) from Monday 29 July until Friday 27 September to allow for road reconstruction and utility works in conjunction with the new housing development at this location.

During this closure, Services 4, 78 & 78A will be unable to serve Bournmoor (4, 78 & 78A) or Fence Houses (4) in a southerly direction.

Service 4 will operate normal route to Shiney Row and Chester Road, then at the speed camera, will divert left to Golf Course Road, bearing right at Stott's Pastures to Blind Lane, then at The Beehive roundabout, turn right to Sedgeletch Road to Fence Houses, then left to Front Street and normal route. Customers for Bournmoor can alight and cross over to catch a 4 in the oppopsite direction. A shuttle bus will operate between Bournmoor and Fence Houses Community Centre during the day, extending to Chilton Moor during the evening.

Services 78 & 78A will operate normal route to Shiney Row and Chester Road, then will divert left to Golf Course Road, bearing right at Stott's Pastures to Blind Lane, then at The Beehive roundabout, turn right to Sedgeletch Road to Fence Houses, then right to Front Street and left to Lumley New Road and normal route. Customers for Bournmoor can alight at Fencehouses and catch a 4 towards Bournmoor, or catch the shuttle bus from Fencehouses Community Centre during the day. The shuttle bus will extend to Chilton Moor during the evening.

Services 4, 78 & 78A eastbound will operate normally at this time.

  • Westbound services 4, 78 & 78A will not be able to serve Bournmoor or Fence Houses (4). Customers travelling from Bournmoor towards Chester-le-Street will be able to catch a shuttle bus to Fence Houses Community Centre and change to a diverted 78 there.
  • Customers travelling to Fence Houses from Shiney Row or Washington will catch diverted service 4 to Fencehouses, then cross over at catch service 4 towards Bournmoor.
  • Customers from Sunderland and Shiney Row for Bournmoor will catch diverted service 78 to Fence Houses Community Centre then catch shuttle bus to Bournmoor.
  • Customers can buy their usual single or return from Bournmoor to Fence Houses or Houghton-le-Spring on the 4 when travelling towards Shiney Row. Alternatively, customers can catch the shuttle bus from Bournmoor to Woodstone Village and then travel on the 71 from there. 

Services Q1 and Q2 at Heworth from 5 August until 1 September

The Drive will be closed from Monday 5 August for approximately 4 weeks. During this time, services Q1 and Q2 will operate via Watermill Lane and High Heworth Lane, serving all stops.

Services in Newcastle from 18 until 23 August

High Level Bridge will be closed between 10pm and 6am each night from Sunday 18 to Friday 23 August.

During these times, buses will be unable to serve stops Castle Garth/St. Nicholas Street in Newcastle, or Wellington Street in Gateshead.

Services Q1, Q2, Q3 and Toon Tour at Quayside on 19 August

The World Transplant Games takes place on Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside and Swing Bridge with numerous closures in this area between 6am and 6pm on Monday 19 August.

Buses will be unable to serve either side of Quayside, Swing Bridge, Baltic, Dean Street or Grey Street. Q3 will observe all stops on City Road in both directions.

Services 50 and 56 at Severn Houses from 19 August until 19 October

The A1290 Washington Road will be closed between Severn Houses and Cherry Blossom junction from Monday 19 August until Saturday 19 October for extensive road and flood repairs.

Buses unable to to serve stops at Severn Houses or west of Cherry Blossom Way. Use stops on Cherry Blossom Way south of Washington Road (Unipress).

Service V9 at Hamsterley Mill on 19 and 20 August

The road between Hamsterley Mill and Blackhall Mill from 8.30am and 3.30pm each day.

There will be no service on V9 at Blackhall Mill, Mill Road or Chopwell. Customers from these locations should travel on the free shuttle bus to Rowlands Gill and change to V9 here. Customers travelling to these locations should remain on the V9 to Rowlands Gill and change to the free shuttle bus for onward travel to Chopwell, Mill Road and Blackhall Mill.

Services 35A and X10 between White Mare Pool and Testo's roundabout from 19 until 22 August

The A184 between White Mare Pool and Testo's roundabouts eastbound ONLY, will be closed overnight each night from 8pm to 6am on the nights of Monday 19 to Thursday 22 August.

Service 35A will operate from Heworth to White Mare Pool roundabout, then left to A194 Leam Lane to Lindisfarne roundabout, then right to A19 southbound back to Testo's roundabout and left to normal route.

Service X10 towards Middlesbrough will divert from White Mare Pool roundabout, right to A194 southbound, left at Follingsby sliproad to A195 and follow south until reaching the A1231 sliproad, turning left towards Sunderland, then right at A19 roundabout to rejoin A19 southbound and normal route.

Unable to serve Testos roundabout bus stop towards Boldon, Peterlee or Middlesbrough.

Service 9 at Truro Avenue in Murton from 19 August until 29 November

Truro Avenue at Murton will be closed from Monday 19 August for 16 weeks between 7.30am and 5pm each day.

Buses will be unable to serve stops on Truro Avenue and Bude Square, please use either Mann Crescent or Penryn Avenue stops.

Services 40 and 41 in Wallsend from 20 until 23 August, as well as 27 and 28 August

McNamara Road and Shafto Street will be closed for resurfacing from Tuesday 20 to Friday 23 August between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day, and then again between the same times on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 August. 

Buses will be unable to serve McNamara Road, Savory Road or Simonside Avenue - please use stops on Archer Street.

Services 21, 25 and X22 at Chester-le-Street from 27 August until 1 September

27 until 30 August

  • Newcastle Road will be closed for resurfacing between Highfields and Northlands from 9.30am to 3.30pm each day from Tuesday 27 to Friday 30 August.
  • During these times, buses will be unable to serve stops on Newcastle Road at Chester-le-Street. Customers at Highfields to use stops on Park Road North, whilst those closer to Chester-le-Street town centre, use stops on Front Street.

31 August and 1 September

  • Newcastle Road will be closed for resurfacing between Highfields and Northlands from 7am to 7pm each day on Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September. 
  • During these times, buses will be unable to serve stops on Newcastle Road at Chester-le-Street. Customers at Highfields to use stops on Park Road North, whilst those closer to Chester-le-Street town centre, use stops on Front Street.
