Roadworks and diversions affecting Go North East buses

Services 1, 1A, 21, 67, Q1, Q2 and X21 at Durham Road/Shipcote Terrace in Gateshead from 4 February until 5 April

Works will take place on Durham Road at the junction of Shipcote Lane from Monday 4 February until Friday 5 April.

Service 681 between Slaggyford and Alston from 4 March until 24 May

The road between Slaggyford and Alston will be closed each weekday between 9.15am and 4pm from Monday 4 March until Friday 24 May, with no closures on any Saturdays.

During these works, the 9am departure from Alston towards Haltwhistle will run normally, with works commencing once the bus has passed.

The 12.40pm from Haltwhistle to Alston will terminate at Slaggyford, and the 2.20pm journey from Alston will not run, it will commence from Slaggyford at the normal time.

The 681 journey operating after 4pm will run normally, as will the X81 returning to Hexham.

Service 681 will operate to normal route and times on Saturdays.

Services 9, 20, 20A, 35, 35A, 36, 56, 939, N56 and X20 at North Bridge Street in Sunderland from 11 until 22 March

The contra-flow bus lane will be closed again on North Bridge Street between Wheatsheaf and Wearmouth Bridge from Monday 11 until Friday 22 March.

Services towards Sunderland City Centre from Wheatsheaf will be diverted via Roker Avenue, Church Street North and Dame Dorothy Street.

Services will be unable to serve Wheatsheaf bus stops, please use stop on Roker Avenue, at Salvation Army building.

Services 35, 35A, X9 and X10 at Felling by-pass from 11 until 24 March

Due to lane closures on Felling by-pass eastbound towards Testo's roundabout, we will be unable to serve the eastbound bus stop on A184 approach to Testo's roundabout suspended due to lane closures. Please use stop at Fellgate Farm to the west of this stop.

Services 12, 12A and 69 from 18 until 29 March

Due to carriageway repair works taking place on Blaydon Bank at the junction with Alice Street, there will be 2-way lights in place for up to two weeks, and at busy times there may be delays.

Services 8, 21 and X21 at Chester-le-Street from 18 March until 19 April

Stand G outside of Corals on Front Street, Chester-le-Street will be closed for reconstruction from Monday 18 March until at least Friday 19 April.

Services 21 and X21 will relocate to Stand J on South Burns, whilst service 8 towards Sunderland will relocate to Stand M at the rear of South Burns.

Services 9 and 820 at Lukes Lane Estate from 21 until 23 March

Road resurfacing will take place on the west side of Marine Drive in Lukes Lane Estate between 8am and 6pm each day from Thursday 21 until Saturday 23 March. 

  • On the Thursday and Friday, the scholars buses will be allowed through, but there may be a short wait whilst access is granted. 
  • Service 9 will be unable to serve Lukes Lane Estate - please use stops on Campbell Park Road. 

Services 13, 14, 15, 15A, 16, 16A, 21, 50, 50A and X21 at North Road in Durham from 20 until 23 March

North Road, north of the rail viaduct in Durham, will be closed for four nights from Wednesday 20 until Saturday 23 between 7pm and 6.30am each night.

During these closures, there will be no services at Garden House/St. Leonards School bus stops - please use County Hall stops. Wharton Park stops also out of use, please use Durham Bus Station or North Road (service 13). 

Services 6A, 45, 49, 49A and 97 at Hollinside Road and Scotswood View from 20 until 22 March

Due to carriageway resurfacing, Hollinside Road (both directions) and Scotswood Road (westbound) will be closed overnight from 10pm until 6am each night from Wednesday 20 until Friday 22 March.

Services 6A, 45, 49/49A will be unable to serve Swalwell monument westbound, please use stop on Whickham Bank (6A), Swalwell roundabout (45), or Shibdon Road (49/49A). All services will serve Metrocentre bus station. Service 97 unable to serve MetrOasis or Clavering Road from Metrocentre, please use bus station or Ruskin Road.

Services 238 and 265 at Station Road in Seaham on 23 March

Station Road will be closed on Saturday 23 March between 7am and 7pm for resurfacing works.

  • Service 238 will be unable to serve stops on Station Road, Northlea Road, Burnhall Drive or Durham Street, please use stops at the Mill Inn or New Strangford Road.
  • Service 265 will be unable to serve stops on Westlea Road or Station Road, please use first pair of stops on The Avenue.

Services 5, 9 and 26 at Jarrow from 23 until 25 March

Bede Burn Road will be closed between Field Terrace and Butchers Bridge Road from Saturday 23 to Monday 25 March.

Services 5 and 9 will omit stops at Bedes Well Guest House and Bede Burn Road/Butchers Bridge Road junction, whilst service 26 will omit stops on Valley View and York Avenue.
