The Cricket World Cup is coming to the North East – here's our travel guide

The Cricket World Cup is coming to the North East with three fantastic One Day Internationals taking place at the Emirates Riverside in Chester-le-Street.

  • Friday 28 June – Sri Lanka v South Africa
  • Monday 1 July – Sri Lanka v West Indies
  • Wednesday 3 July – England v New Zealand


Travelling to Emirates Riverside is easy with us


From Chester-le-Street & Sunderland

  • Catch the Coast & Country 78 from Sunderland, Chester-le-Street, Stanley and Consett or the 71 from Chester-le-Street and Houghton-le-Spring with both services stopping outside the Emirates Riverside.


From Newcastle, Gateshead or Low Fell

  • Catch the Castles Express X21 or Angel 21 from Eldon Square Bus Station or St Nicholas' Cathedral (for Central Station) in Newcastle, Gateshead Interchange or The Cannon in Low Fell with fast buses on X21 every 30 minutes and buses up to every 7 minutes on the 21. Alight on Chester-le-Street Front Street for the Emirates Riverside or change to our 71 or 78 services.
  • We'll have dedicated Angel 21 buses from the Emirates Riverside to Newcastle after each game.


From Durham

  • From Durham Bus Station, catch the Castles Express X21, Angel 21 or the 50 to the Black Horse stop on Chester-le-Street Front Street for the Emirates Riverside, or change to our 71 or 78 services. The X21 runs every 30 minutes, the 21 every 15 minutes and the 50 every 30 minutes.
  • From Durham Rail Station, catch the 500 shuttle direct to the Emirates Riverside. Buses will run from 7.30am until 10.30am at frequent intervals and then at 10.50am, 11.10am and 11.30am. Buses will return from the late afternoon until one hour after the game finishes. Special fares of £3 single and £6 return apply on this service and concessionary passes or Go North East tickets aren’t valid on 500 shuttle.


From Bishop Auckland

  • Catch the Castles Express X21 from the Bus Station every 30 minutes to the Black Horse stop on Chester-le-Street Front Street for the Emirates Riverside, or change to our 71 or 78 services.


From South Shields & Washington

  • Catch the 50 which runs every 30 minutes to Chester-le-Street Front Street for the Emirates Riverside, or change to our 71 or 78 services.


Park & Ride

  • We'll also be running a Park & Ride service from Rainton Meadows Arena (just off the A690 near Houghton-le-Spring) with buses running every few minutes from 7.30am until 10.30am and then at 10.50am, 11.10am and 11.30am. Buses will return from the late afternoon until one hour after the game finishes. Special fares of £3 return per person apply on this service and concessionary passes or Go North East tickets aren’t valid on the Park & Ride service.
