Blaydon Race on Friday 9 June

If you are taking part or cheering someone along in The Blaydon Race, then we can take you there!

We have a number of buses to the start in Newcastle City Centre, or to the end in Blaydon.

Depending on where you are travelling between, there are some great value for money tickets available from single and return fares to day tickets that give unlimited travel in your chosen zone. Newcastle and Blaydon are within the Purple zone.

Diversions in Newcastle

In Newcastle, the closures this year will again be between 4.45pm and 9.15pm with Bigg Market, Mosley Street, Collingwood Street, Westgate Road, Clayton Street, Westmorland Road, Marlborough Crescent, Railway Street Scotswood Road and Plummer Street ALL being closed until 9pm.

Services 6, 10/10A/10B, 11, 12/12A, 45/46/47, X30 will all operate TO Eldon Square from Metrocentre/Handy Drive/Team Street etc and will then operate via St James' Boulevard and Gallowgate, observing St James’ bus stop and Percy Street and will OMIT SCOTSWOOD ROAD/BUSINESS PARK (12/12A), CLAYTON STREET & NEWGATE STREET (ALL).

Services 6, 10/10A/10B, 11, 12/12A, 45/46/47, X30 operating FROM Eldon Square to Redheugh Bridge/Team Street/Handy Drive/Metrocentre etc will operate via Gallowgate, observing bus stop near to Citygate and St. James Boulevard for its’ full length towards Redheugh Bridge and will OMIT SCOTSWOOD ROAD/BUSINESS PARK (12), NEWGATE STREET, GRAINGER STREET & NEVILLE STREET (CENTRAL STATION) (ALL).

Services 21, 28/28A, X1, X9/X10, X21, X25, X31/X32, X70/X71 operating TO Newcastle from Gateshead via Tyne Bridge will operate via normal route.

Services 21, 28/28A, X1, X9, X10, X21, X25, X31/X32, X70/X71 operating FROM Newcastle to Gateshead will operate via Blackett Street, Pilgrim Street, serving bus stop at Bank of England, Swan House roundabout, Tyne Bridge and Hills Street and will OMIT MARKET STREET WEST, GRAINGER STREET or NEWGATE STREET (WILKINSON’S), BIGG MARKET, ST NICHOLAS STREET & HIGH LEVEL BRIDGE.

Services 1, 11, 56, 57, 58, X36 operating TO New Bridge Street, Market Street or Pilgrim Street from Gateshead via Tyne Bridge will operate via normal route.

Services 1, 11, 56, 57, 58, X36 operating FROM New Bridge Street, Market Street or Pilgrim Street to Gateshead will operate via Pilgrim Street, serving bus stop at Bank of England, Swan House roundabout, Tyne Bridge and Hills Street and will OMIT MARKET STREET WEST, GRAINGER STREET BIGG MARKET, ST NICHOLAS STREET & HIGH LEVEL BRIDGE.

Service 27 will operate from Tyne Bridge to Pilgrim Street and Market Street East, terminating at John Dobson Street. Departing from New Bridge Street (56, 57 & 58 stop) will then operate via Pilgrim Street, serving Bank of England stop, Swan House roundabout, Tyne Bridge and Hills Street towards Gateshead.

Services 53/54, X30 will operate between Redheugh Bridge and Tyne Bridge via St James’ Boulevard, Gallowgate, serving stops at Citygate or St James, Blackett Street, Pilgrim Street, serving bus stops used by service 57 (northbound) or the last stop (southbound) plus the Bank of England stop, and Swan House roundabout in both directions.

Service 97 will operate to Pilgrim Street but unable to turn left will go ahead to serve the 57 stop on Pilgrim Street, then Market Street, John Dobson Street and Market Street, waiting time at old Police Station stop, then depart and turn left onto Pilgrim Street, ahead to Tyne Bridge, then Hills Street to Gateshead.

Service Q1 will operate Dean Street, Mosley Street, Swan House, Pilgrim Street and terminate at Pilgrim Street (57 stop), then depart as Q2 via Market Street, John Dobson Street, Market Street, Pilgrim Street, Swan House, Mosley Street and Dean Street.

Service Q3 is unaffected.

Blaydon area diversions

In the Blaydon area, the race will follow arrangements in place for last few years and will follow Scotswood Bridge, Chainbridge Road, Chainbridge Slip-road, Blaydon bus link, across Shibdon Road towards the waste disposal centre, then via an off-road section towards Blaydon Swimming Baths. Rolling road closures will affect Scotswood Bridge and Chainbridge Road as in previous years, but temporary full road closures will affect Chainbridge Road westbound off-slip, Blaydon Bus Link, and Chainbridge Road South between 5.30pm and 7.30pm.

Services 10/10A/10B, 12/12A operating TO Newcastle from Blaydon Bus Station will operate to roundabout behind bus station, then loop around, back through bus station, then via Shibdon Road, A694, then either Riverside Way and Scotswood View to MetroCentre bus station, or Derwenthaugh Road and Scotswood Bridge towards Scotswood Road and will OMIT BLAYDON BUS LINK, CHAINBRIDGE ROAD & ASSOCIATED SLIP- ROADS.

Services 10/10A/10B, 12/12A operating FROM Newcastle to Blaydon will operate via Scotswood Bridge and Derwenthaugh Road, or Scotswood View and Riverside Way to A694 and Shibdon Road to Blaydon Bus Station and will OMIT CHAINBRIDGE ROAD AND ASSOCIATED SLIP-ROADS & BLAYDON BUS LINK.

Services 49, 49A, 67 & 69 operating FROM Shibdon Road to Blaydon Bus Station will operate via Shibdon Road to the bus station entrance and will OMIT CHAINBRIDGE ROAD & BLAYDON BUS LINK.

Services 49, 49A, 67 & 69 operating TO Shibdon Road from Blaydon Bus Station will operate to roundabout behind bus station, then loop around, back through bus station, then via Shibdon Road and will OMIT BLAYDON BUS LINK & CHAINBRIDGE ROAD.
