Christmas and New Year buses

Whether you’re commuting to and from work, looking for that special Christmas gift, visiting friends and family, or heading to a Christmas event, we have your festive travel needs wrapped up.

Our bus services will run to normal timetables right up to, and including, Thursday 23 December with some changes over the Christmas and New Year period.

Get on board with us to help bust congestion and improve air quality – we’ve made major upgrades to our buses, tickets, website, app and much more.

Here’s our guide to service levels for the Christmas and New Year period…

  • Wednesday 22 December – buses will run to normal weekday timetables.

  • Thursday 23 December – buses will run to normal weekday timetables.

  • Christmas Eve – buses will run to Saturday timetable, with the majority of last departures between 6pm and 7pm – you can view our Christmas Eve timetables by heading to our timetables and maps section, selecting your service and changing the date to 24 December.
    • Please note that service 91 will run to its normal weekday timetable.

  • Christmas Day – no buses will run on Christmas Day.

  • Boxing Day – some services will be running to special timetables, including services 2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 10A, 10B, 16A, 20, 21, 26, 27, 35A, 47, 49, 49A, 51, 52, 53, 54, 56, 58, 60, 61, 97, 311, Q3, X1, X5, X21, X30 and X66 – view timetables by selecting your service and changing the date to 26 December.

  • Monday 27 December – buses will run to Sunday timetables, with the following exceptions:
    • Service 6 will run to a special timetable between Stanley and Lanchester.
    • Service 59 will not operate.
    • Tynedale Links local Hexham services will be running to Saturday timetables, and some of the later journeys on Tynedale Links 74 will not operate.

  • Tuesday 28 December – buses will run to Sunday timetables, with the following exceptions:
    • Service 6 will run to a special timetable between Stanley and Lanchester.
    • Service 59 will not operate.
    • Tynedale Links local Hexham services will be running to Saturday timetables, and some of the later journeys on Tynedale Links 74 will not operate.

  • Wednesday 29 December – buses will run to Saturday timetables, with the following exceptions:
    • Some of the later Saturday journeys on Tynedale Links 74 will not operate.
    • Sainsbury’s S2 will run to its usual weekday timetable.

  • Thursday 30 December – buses will run to Saturday timetables, with the following exceptions:
    • Some of the later Saturday journeys on Tynedale Links 74 will not operate.
    • Sainsbury’s S2 will run to its usual weekday timetable.

  • New Year’s Eve – buses will run to Saturday timetables, with the majority of last departures between 6pm and 7pm – you can view our New Year’s Eve timetables by heading to our timetables and maps section, selecting your service and changing the date to 31 December.
    • Please note that Sainsbury’s S2 will run to its normal weekday timetable.

  • New Year’s Day – no buses will run on New Year’s Day.

  • Sunday 2 January – buses will run to normal Sunday timetables.

  • Monday 3 January – buses will run to Sunday timetables.

  • Tuesday 4 January – buses will return to normal timetables from this day onwards.
