Buses diverted between Gateshead and Newcastle from 20 March 2017

Temporary closure of Hills Street in Gateshead, starting on Monday 20 March 2017 for approximately five weeks, with the bus stop adjacent to the Central Bar being out of use and buses being rerouted.


Services 1, 1A, 11, 11X, 54, 97 & 97A

  • Buses to Newcastle will run via Gateshead Interchange, then run direct and non-stop to Newcastle calling at their usual City Centre bus stops.
  • Buses from Newcastle will continue to run via their usual routes and call at Gateshead Interchange.


Services 21, 28, 28A, N21 & X21

  • Buses to Newcastle will call at Gateshead Interchange stand N and then go direct to Newcastle, calling at the usual City Centre bus stops.
  • Buses from Newcastle will continue to run via their usual routes and call at Gateshead Interchange.


Services 27, 56, 57, 58 & X36

  • The Crusader 27 buses to Newcastle will omit Gateshead Interchange, running instead via High West Street and Jackson Street calling at the Jackson House bus stop, then direct to Newcastle, calling at the usual City Centre bus stops.
  • The Fab 56, Night Bus N56, CityLink 57/58 and X36 buses to Newcastle will omit Gateshead Interchange, running instead via Gateshead High Street, calling at the bus stop opposite Barclays Bank, then direct to Newcastle, calling at their usual City Centre bus stops.
  • Buses from Newcastle will continue to run via their usual routes and call at Gateshead Interchange.


Services X1, X1A, X9, X10, X25, X31, X32, X70, X71 & X72

  • Buses to Newcastle will call at Gateshead Interchange stand N, then run direct to Newcastle City Centre via the Redheugh Bridge, with stops in Clayton Street and Newgate Street, or Gallowgate, depending on traffic conditions.
  • If you normally travel to John Dobson Street or Pilgrim Street in Newcastle, you can change buses in Gateshead Interchange, then complete your journey on the 21, 28, 28A or X21 bus by showing your valid ticket to the driver.
  • Buses from Newcastle will continue to run via their usual routes and call at Gateshead Interchange.
