Go North East to celebrate LGBT+ History Month
Colleagues at Go North East will be marking LGBT+ History Month throughout February with a range of activities.
Champions from the company’s One Team GNE diversity, inclusivity and culture improvement initiative have chosen to celebrate this important event in the LGBTQ+ calendar because of its role in increasing awareness of LGBTQ+ matters that the community have faced, and continue to face.
Some of Go North East’s colleagues will focus on their own histories and experiences, which they hope will raise awareness and get colleagues talking about issues that aren’t always easy to bring up and discuss, to help improve understanding and appreciation right across the workforce.
Activities planned to mark LGBT+ History Month include video interviews with LGBTQ+ colleagues from Go North East, a live talk from the National Aids Trust, some fun and engaging online team quizzes and sharing of information and facts about LGBTQ+ history.
Celebrating LGBT+ History Month is just one of many other events planned for 2021 by the company’s One Team GNE Champions, across a broad range of subjects including marking International Women’s Day, Black History Month and, later this week, Time to Talk Day in support of mental health.
Martijn Gilbert, managing director at Go North East, said: “I’m really pleased that our One Team GNE Champions have chosen to mark LGBT+ History Month in February.
“It’s important that all our colleagues, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, feel comfortable to be themselves at work and also continue to evolve our understanding and respect of diversity and inclusivity matters across both the workplace and the communities we serve
“Celebrating LGBT+ History Month, and similar events, contributes towards building a more inclusive and supportive team culture that ultimately benefits all our colleagues, helping to ensure that Go North East is a modern and welcoming company to work with.
“I’m really looking forward to other activities that our One Team GNE Champions have planned throughout 2021 and beyond.”
