Metro ticket acceptance on bus services in North Tyneside from 16 July

From Saturday 16 July to Friday 29 July, no trains will run in either direction between St James and Tynemouth. This is to allow the complete removal and replacement of Tanner Bank bridge, as well as vegetation and overhead power line work.

We have agreed to accept Metro tickets and passes on our local bus services in the affected area:

  • Coaster 1 – between Gateshead, Newcastle City Centre and Whitley Bay
  • Service 19 – between North Shields and Northumberland Park
  • Cobalt & Coast 310 – between Newcastle City Centre and North Shields

As a result of this work, buses on Coaster 1 will be unable to serve bus stops at Tynemouth Road between Linskill Terrace and Percy Park Road from Saturday 16 July until Friday 29 July. Please catch your bus from stops on Linskill Terrace, King Edward Road or Manor Road.

Temporary timetable changes from Sunday 24 July

We will also boost the frequency of Coaster service 1 on evenings from Sunday 24 July, from every 60 minutes to every 20 minutes, to ensure that there is enough capacity later in the evening when fewer buses run.

Coaster service 1 will also run with double-deck buses for the duration of the Metro line closure, ensuring there are enough seats for everyone to travel.
