Stand By Me at Sunderland Empire on 3 June

Michael Williams and Ryan King, formerly members of The Drifters for 12 and 8 years consecutively are delighted to be returning to the Sunderland Empire on Saturday 3 June in the brand new touring production Stand By Me prior to its West End debut.

Ryan said “it’s great to be coming back to the North East again, I have fond memories on our last visit to Sunderland of launching the new “Drifter” buses for Go North East. I remember us singing along to “Under The Boardwalk” whilst travelling on the bus with passengers from a local school, it was great fun and a great time”.

Stand By Me is the phenomenal musical history of a group that helped to define Atlantic Records, inspired early rock and roll and was a forerunner to both the black music movement in 1950’s America and even early Motown. The Drifters were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and are one of the biggest selling and longest serving bands of all time – this is their musical history told through the music and anecdotes of the former members on screen and featuring some of the original recording artists from the successful Stand By Me album.
