New open top bus service coming to Tynemouth and Whitley Bay

Go North East is launching the Tide Tour, an open top bus service running from Tynemouth to Whitley Bay. The service, which will operate over the summer, has been funded by the North East Mayor Kim McGuinness as part of her commitment to making travel more affordable and accessible across the region.

The Tide Tour will stop at all the North Tyneside coast’s most popular attractions and destinations, including Tynemouth Aquarium, Cullercoats, Spanish City, Waves Leisure Pool, and Whitley Bay Holiday Park. The service starts on 18 July, just in time for the summer holidays, and runs until 31 August.

Ben Gilligan, Managing Director at Go North East, said: “In the North East, we’re so lucky to have fantastic beaches like Whitley Bay and Tynemouth on our doorstep with plenty of activities for families to enjoy. The Tide Tour is a great way to explore this part of the region while taking in some sea air from the top deck.”

The Mayor’s Fares will apply on the Tide Tour, so passengers can buy a TNE Day Saver (£7.50 adults and £3 for those aged 21 and under) and catch any bus, Metro or the Shields Ferry to the coast and the ticket will be valid to hop on and off the Tide Tour too.

North East Mayor, Kim McGuinness, said: “Our incredible coastline is one of the best parts of the North East and I want as many people as possible to enjoy it this summer.

“Passengers will be able to use our Mayor’s Fares and kids will go free over the school holidays, making it an even more affordable day out by the sea linking up our best-loved attractions.”

The Tide Tour will run Monday – Sunday with seven departures every day between 10am and 4pm. Passengers can hop on the bus at any stop along the route. Tickets will be available to purchase from the driver or on the Go North East app.

The service offers convenient connections with the Metro at Tynemouth, Whitley Bay and Cullercoats.
