It's that time of year again, and there are plenty of fang-tastic activities around the region for families to enjoy. Have a look at our spooktacular guide and see what takes your fancy!

You can even save money with our Family Day Ticket – just £12 on the Go North East app or from your driver, and covers up to two adults and three children under 16, with a minimum of one adult and one child required. People aged between 5 and 25 can also travel at our discounted rates.


Halloween Evenings at Beamish Museum 
– 23, 25, 26, 30 and 31 October

  • Are you ready for a fright night to remember at Beamish Museum’s Halloween Evenings? Experience a spooktacular evening of tricks and treats as Beamish is transformed into The Un-living Museum of the North.

Lights Out in Sunderland – 25 October until 3 November

  • It will be Lights Out at the city of lights, as Sunderland prepares to welcome the spookiest festival the region has ever seen. From 25 October to 3 November the city will be alive with things that go bump in the night, scary installations and a range of family-frightening activities.

Life Science Centre 
– spooky, gory and gross fun from 19 October until 3 November

  • Get spooky this October half-term with uncanny science, slime workshops and more. There's Halloween fun for all the family including gore, illusion, craft and mystery!

Ghost Train at Tanfield Railway 
– 26 and 27 October

  • Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for creatures lurking in the dark and things that go 'shunt' in the night! Take part in gruesome games and taste some fangtastic food and drinks. Be amazed by the bizarre bubbleologist, frightened by the freaky fire breather and much more!

Seven Stories Ghost Tour 
– 24 and 31 October

  • The Seven Stories building is over 150 years old and has been many things; from a steam powered flax mill to a wine merchant’s store. The people who worked there have long since gone… or have they?

Halloween Creatures Trail at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens 
– 20 October until 3 November

Spooky Night at Discovery Museum 
– 31 October

  • Calling all little monsters, ghosts and ghouls, Discovery Museum's Halloween party is set to be truly spooktacular! Head to the museum in your best Halloween dress for a frighteningly fun evening. Activities will include bewitching tales, creepy crafts, devilish disco, ghoulish games and more!

Halloween at Wharton Park in Durham 
– 24 October until 3 November

  • From 24 October until 3 November, there'll be an array of activities including 'The Dead Good Trail', 'Creepy Crafts', 'Skeleton School' and 'Family Fright Night - The Gravest Show'.

The Wizards Express at Stephenson Railway Museum

Halloween activities at Jarrow Hall – 28 until 31 October

  • 28 and 29 October – get into the seasonal spooky spirit by crafting your very own broomstick and magical wand, the ideal finishing fancy-dress touch for little witches and warlocks.
  • 30 and 31 October – pick your own pumpkin from Jarrow Hall’s pumpkin patch! Learn how this spectacular fruit grows and develop your ghoulishly creative skills by carving a pumpkin into a Halloween jack-o-lantern in the Thirlings!
