Go North East has announced the appointment of Simon Carlisle as its new Engineering Director. Simon brings extensive experience to the role, having most recently served for seven years as Engineering Director for First West Yorkshire.

To celebrate English Tourism Week, Go North East has announced the return of the popular Toon Tour open-top sightseeing bus from Saturday 9 April. The service will run every weekend, bank holiday and during school holidays from Saturday 9 April until Friday 27 May, then daily from Saturday 28 May until Sunday 4 September. It will then return for four further days on 17, 18, 24 and 25 September.
The bus will be trialled on the service for one week from Monday 28 February, serving Brandon, Durham, Arnison Centre, Chester-le-Street, Birtley, Low Fell, Gateshead and Newcastle.
To mark the occasion, the region’s largest bus company has unveiled a display at Gateshead Interchange that is adorned with knitted and homemade poppies, remembering all those who have served, sacrificed, and changed our world.
Go North East has extended its summer saving fares offers, and is improving its offering even further by introducing new money saving tickets in North Tyneside, which will include journeys into Newcastle.
Go North East has launched a new blanket fare offer for those travelling around Gateshead with a headline maximum single fare of just £1.70 for any journey, and other offers across the region, as part of its summer savings fares campaign.
It also hopes to extend them longer term if the take up is good enough and more people get on board the region’s buses.
